How We Pack and Ship Fragile Murano Glass Internationally

Shipping vintage Murano glass across the world is not something we take lightly. Every piece we sell is irreplaceable — decades-old handcrafted glass that cannot simply be reordered if something goes wrong. Here's exactly how we approach packing and shipping to make sure your piece arrives safely, wherever you are in the world.

Every Piece is Individually Assessed

Before we pack anything, we assess each piece individually. A small glass vase and a large chandelier require completely different approaches. We consider:

  • The size, weight and fragility of the piece
  • Any protruding elements (arms, stems, decorative details) that need extra protection
  • The destination country and estimated transit time
  • Whether the piece needs to be partially disassembled for safe transport

Our Packing Method

We use a multi-layer, double or triple box system for every shipment — one of the most effective methods for protecting fragile items in transit.

  1. Bubble wrap — the piece is wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap with extra attention to any fragile protrusions or delicate details
  2. Inner box — the wrapped piece is placed in a snug inner box, fully cushioned so it cannot shift during transit
  3. Outer box (or boxes) — the inner box sits inside a larger outer box with substantial padding on all sides — the air gap between boxes acts as a shock absorber. For particularly fragile or valuable pieces we use a third box for additional protection
  4. Black stretch film — the finished package is wrapped in black stretch film to reinforce the box, keep everything sealed, and protect against moisture and handling
  5. Fragile tape — clearly marked fragile tape is applied on all sides so carriers handle the package with appropriate care

We use a combination of new and recycled packing materials, always prioritising maximum protection while being mindful of environmental impact.

Chandeliers & Large Pendants

Large ceiling fixtures sometimes need to be partially disassembled for safe transport — for example, removing individual glass arms or shades. Each component is carefully wrapped and packed. If you need guidance on how to reassemble your piece on arrival, simply contact us and we'll walk you through it.

What if Something Arrives Damaged?

Despite our careful packing, accidents in transit can occasionally happen. If your piece arrives damaged, please:

  1. Photograph the damaged packaging and the piece before moving anything
  2. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery

We resolve damage cases quickly — we will offer a full refund or a replacement with a similar item, agreed with you directly. We don't make you wait weeks for a resolution. Please refer to our Returns & Refunds policy for full details.

Customs & Import Duties

International shipments may be subject to customs duties and import taxes in the destination country. These charges are the responsibility of the buyer. We declare all items accurately on customs forms. If you have questions about likely import duties for your country, feel free to contact us before purchasing.
